The Equatorial sun beamed through our bedroom window lighting up the lemon tree in the nook at the end of the bed. How is it that now that we're retired I can't wait to get up with the sunrise? No more lollygagging, too much to be done.
Or at least that's how it is for me. I can't wait to spend my time hiking and painting, listening to music and drinking in the days.
My husband was a different story. He had worked since he was seven years old. He struggled to change gears. Mind you, he had never had the opportunity to explore hobbies or other interests. His only hobby had been cooking. But I am only one woman and can only eat so much!
Navigating our new found freedom took adjustment and for me patience. I wanted to paint for hours, lost in my swirls, colours and lines. But my husband, wanting to do everything together, was waiting for me. Good-natured. Supportive. Understanding even. But waiting nonetheless.
"Striking a Balance" tells the story of energetically bending and adapting, of feeling boxed in and at the same time encouraged to flow. This is a struggle I have always felt. Sometimes consumed with dark resentment, but with him, more often just honoured to be loved so much.
